Allergies

Allergies are among the most common chronic conditions. Allergies occur when the immune system reacts to a foreign substance such as pollen, bee venom, pet dander, or a food. While most allergies can't be cured, treatments can help relieve allergy symptoms.

Allergy Symptoms
An allergic reaction can trigger symptoms in the nose, lungs, throat, sinuses, ears, lining of the stomach or on the skin. For some people, allergies can also trigger symptoms of asthma.

A number of different allergens are responsible for allergic reactions. The most common include:
  • Pollen
  • Dust
  • Food
  • Insect stings
  • Animal dander
  • Mold
  • Medications/Drugs
  • Latex

Symptoms may include:

  • Sneezing
  • Itching of the nose, eyes or roof of the mouth
  • Runny, stuffy nose
  • Watery, red or swollen eyes
  • Hives
  • Itchy skin
  • Rash
  • Wheezing
